Great trip planning for Oahu.
I downloaded samples of a lot of Oahu books and I just liked the vibe of this one. It seems more honest than the rest (in terms of criticizing tourist traps and telling you tricks). I am a big Rick Steves Europe fan and this book had a similar style. We bought this one and downloaded some of the other (Lonely Planet, etc) and we liked this best and planned our trip around its ideas. PS We loved the Polynesian Cultural Center - we ended up making the hour drive twice. Waikiki sucks (crowded and chain restaurants only). The zoo is not good. Lanakai Beach was awesome.
**OAHU LEAKED***
This book covers the inception of the islands to the most recent events as it was was published in 2017. Its as though you uncovered the OAHU bible; like having a tour guide, travel agent, event planner and financial planner all in your back pocket. The most interesting fact is even though the "haiku stairs" has the most magnificent views of the Island, It is illegal. However, without breaking the law or running past security guards, you can actually legally hike to the top another route.. but you'll have to open page 212, once your book arrives in a day or two... The worst fact is that like all volcanic islands, eventually they will die and sink.. Meaning one day Hawaii will not exist. :(. But hey on the upside a new island is forming 20 miles off the coast and in 70,000 years or so will be blooming with tourism.....
The perfect guide to Oahu
This was an easy 5 star for me. I read the guide before leaving for Oahu and used it while we were there. There was a group of 5 all various ages of adults (18, 22, 25, 45 and 67). If we were on any part of the island I knew where we could eat. There wasn't one surprise from the time we were seated until the check was delivered, this guide was always on target. I think Seven Brothers was the greatest local experience. The customer service was excellent and when asked how we found them I got to give props to this guide. This was my third trip to Hawaii and I truly feel this was the best trip of them all because we had the island laid out for us so that we could choose the vacation experiences that best fit our group as a whole. We saw so much. My kids had not ever been to Hawaii and could not believe how much we packed into a 7 day vacation. There wasn't any time wasted driving from one end of the island to the other because we missed something. From dining to the best times to visit sights and attractions this is spot on. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is visiting Oahu for the first time or even returning. We purchased the Oahu Go card 3 day passes and saved a lot of money. Additionally, we used Google maps on our phones to navigate the island and didn't have any issues getting around. Thank you for this guide, it made our trip more successful than I ever thought possible!
Very fun guide to discover Oahu.
Very fun guide to discover Oahu. We loved driving around the island and reading about the places as we passed or stopped by. The authors offered interesting/fun facts about places, making the ride more enjoyable. It felt like we were traveling with a friend that kept making snappy comments. Thanks to this book we discovered amazing places in the island, which are not visited by hordes of tourists. With this book there is no need to take a tour around the island, as this guide will give you all the information you need on getting to places.
Really enhanced our visit to Oahu
The locals I spoke with called this the Blue Bible. It enhanced our vacation significantly. - Worked as a hiking guide, helping us pick levels of difficulty, beauty and distance - Helped us choose great restaurants, and what to order there - Didn't use it to choose where we stayed, but, accurate about that place - Really helped us choose beaches where my wife wouldn't encounter too much surf and I could swim or snorkle The only problem is that so many people use it that some recommended places are very crowded. Private waterfall pools get busy, trails are getting worn down and you have to time your visits off hours.
Total must have for any hawaii destination!
These books are a total must for your travels to any of the Hawaiian Islands. Used this book for our Honeymoon to Oahu and found everything to be pretty spot-on! This was a great use for planning our trip and then we cross referenced things with TripAdvisor reviews as well. For those of us that get minimal time off from work for a vacation - we have to do everything to make every minute of that time off count! This book made that possible for us!

I am taking my first trip to Oahu this Spring and this book has been invaluable. The writing style is so refreshing and the reviews have been extremely helpful in figuring out where to stay. I am really looking forward to the trip and this book has been able to get me 100% prepared for the trip. I would give this thing 10 stars if I could. It's so much more thought out than the other (Fodors, etc) guidebooks available.
It's all right. Check before you go to any business out of your way. They may have closed.
Some of the businesses had closed. (So double check before you drive an hour out of your way.) Other than that, the book was pretty good. Maybe the authors could have a little less written swagger, but maybe that's what sells. :shrug: Oh, the haupia cream pie at that famous place really was good. The writers must not have very good food-related taste (and/or are a bit overly obsessed with breakfast).

A MUST HAVE FOR OAHU! We did not expect to enjoy Oahu as much as we did and we may not have found such interesting and fun destinations without this book!! Great suggestions and directions for all levels of daring. Very honest reviews about popular spots. Word of advice - when the book advises to arrive early to get parking - heed the warnings! Arrive at Hanauma Bay and Diamond Head before 9 or in the later afternoon to conquer the limited parking situation! We did not agree with the restaurant reviews, but we use Yelp! almost exclusively for restaurant reviews so this really wasn't an issue.

Excellent read. I had literally the best time ever in Oahu. Plenty of shopping, snorkeling, sightseeing, and water sports. Hanauma bay was so awesome. Turtle bay was also fun to snorkel in. Just be aware of your surroundings and ask questions. Stay in groups and you should be ok. The best advice in the book was don't get in over your head. Read the whole book. Most of the people are nice in Hawaii, but we did run into a druggie or two.
